A woman is due to go on trial today accused of murdering her son.

A woman is due to go on trial today accused of murdering her son.

Anthony Ward was found dead at his home in County Cork in September 2012.

The body of eight-year-old Anthony was discovered in his bed on September 3, 2012, on the day he should have started second class at Newtownshandrum National School.

A post mortem was carried out on his body and it determined that he had died from asphyxiation.

His mother Diane Ward, of Harrison Place, Charleville in county Cork has been charged with his murder.

The 43-year-old is due to go on trial today at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.
