Three Dublin men have pleaded not guilty to the murder of a dissident republican outside a pub in Co Meath.

Peter Butterly was gunned down after being allegedly lured to the Huntsman Inn pub in Gormanston in March of last year.

Dean Evans of Grange Park Rise, Raheny refused to stand up and acknowledge the non-jury Special Criminal Court when his name was called.

From his seat in the dock, the 22-year-old pleaded not guilty to murdering Peter Butterly on March 6, 2013.

His co-accused Sharif Kelly (43) of Pinewood Green Road, Balbriggan and Edward McGrath (32) from Springfield in Tallaght also deny the charge.

Aside from DNA and ballistics experts, the state's star witness is a man called David Cullen.

He was originally charged with murder too, but the DPP did not pursue a prosecution after he offered to give evidence against the others in a trial that is due to take at least five weeks.
