Indian fighter plane crashes in Kashmir

It has been reported that an Indian Air Force MiG fighter jet has crashed in Kashmir's summer capital Srinagar.

The cause of the crash is unknown.

Earlier, eight civilians and an unspecified number of soldiers were killed as Indian and Pakistani troops traded fire in disputed Kashmir.

Police have said that Indian forces and Muslim separatists clashed in various parts of Indian-ruled Kashmir and nine people were killed.

Both sides have accused each other of starting the firing across the Line of Control dividing Kashmir.

Officials have also said that Indian shelling killed five civilians and wounded several on their side of the divided territory.
