Freddie Head admits it is “50-50” whether Goldikova will stay in training next season after she secured consecutive victories in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita on Saturday night.

The four-year-old was notching the seventh top-level success of her career and it was arguably her best ever performance as she broke from stall 11 of 11 before showing a scintillating turn of foot in the straight to score decisively.

Head said immediately afterwards that the filly’s future was undecided and connections are in no rush to make a final decision.

“It was a fantastic performance and she is really something,” said the French maestro, who rode the great Miesque to do the same double.

“The way she made up the ground was unbelievable and she seems to have come out of the race well, although she has not returned home yet.

“I think she will be home this evening and for the moment, talks about the future are on hold. I would say we’ll decide in the next few weeks, but it’s a 50-50 choice whether she stays in training or not.”
