The Taoiseach has said Justice Minister Alan Shatter is considering new legislation to criminalise the purchase of sex.

The Taoiseach has said Justice Minister Alan Shatter is considering new legislation to criminalise the purchase of sex.

Enda Kenny made the remarks in the Dáil when asked about a Prime Time documentary last night, highlighting human trafficking and prostitution in Ireland.

He said the makers of the programme should be complimented for bringing the issue into the public domain.

And he said the Government is now considering new laws to make the purchase of sex illegal.
