Tánaiste stops short of admitting Irish Water will sink Govt

The Tánaiste Joan Burton has stopped short of saying that Irish Water will bring the end of this Government.

Ms Burton said it will be up to the public to decide who's in power.

Both she and Enda Kenny have played down the impact of the ongoing dispute on water charges, and said that the Economic Management Council is making progress on a deal.

She said: "We have so much water in this country, but the costs lie in treating it, carrying it to our homes and carrying the waster water away from our homes."

This morning the Tánaiste was asked, repeatedly, whether Irish Water would "sink" the Fine Gael and Labour coalition. And she said:"At the end of the day, as the Taoiseach said, it is for the people to make thier choice in the election."
