RTÉ boss to consider releasing presenters' salary details more often

RTÉ's new chairperson designate has said that she will consider releasing salary details for broadcasters more often.

Moya Doherty has told TDs at the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communication today that she will discuss introducing a new policy with the other members of the RTÉ board.

However, she pointed out that RTÉ only accounts for five of the top 10 broadcasters' salaries in Ireland.

She says the wages for RTE's latest high-profile recruit are lower than the sponsorship his programme will earn.

"I have asked the management in RTÉ about the salary of a recent individual who has moved to join RTÉ," she said.

"I have been assured that the sponsorship that has been received for the programme that Ray D'Arcy will be presenting, starting next week, more than covers the salary."
