UK prime minister Tony Blair has said there is no reason why a conflict with Iraq should delay a British referendum on adopting the euro.
Speaking ahead of this week's Labour Party conference, Blair said no firm date had been "pencilled in" for a referendum on the adoption of the single European currency.
Asked if a potential armed conflict with Iraq might delay a referendum, Blair replied: "I have never quite understood that one. You do whatever's right."
The British government has repeatedly said that it wants to hold a referendum on the euro before the next general election, which need not be called before 2006.
