A senior Fianna Fáil minister has said Ivor Callely should resign the party whip pending an official inquiry into his expenses - before he is forced out.

The Dublin Senator is facing a probe after it emerged that he had been claiming expenses relating to his holiday home in West Cork.

Batt O'Keeffe said it would be wrong for politicians to use an address that wasn't their permanent one to claim expenses.

He is awaiting the outcome of the official inquiry, but said Sentaor Callely should now take action himself.
