Murderer stabbed victim 100 times

A Palmerstown man has today been found guilty of murdering a security worker five years ago.

Criostoir MacCartaigh of an Gleann was sentenced to life behind bars for killing David Whyte, who was stabbed over 100 times.

On September 26, 2008, a passerby stumbled upon Mr Whyte's body while out walking his dog near a graveyard at the end of Mill Lane in Palmerstown.

A post mortem revealed he died after being stabbed over 100 stab wounds - the most serious of which cut the jugular vein in his neck.

During his murder trial, the court heard how Criostoir MacCartaigh got into an argument with Mr Whyte who happened to be walking along Ulster Street in Phibsboro when his killer left a house party.

MacCartaigh's friend told the court he spotted the victim lying on the ground while the 36-year-old crouched over him with a knife.

He then helped him move the body to the old cemetery where MacCartaigh continued to stab him before dumping his body.

A jury found him guilty of murder today and he has been sentenced to life behind bars.
