Ming on way to Europe, tallies indicate

Indications are that Independent Luke 'Ming' Flanagan is on course to win a European seat in the Midlands North West constituency.

The poll also took the views of just under 1,000 voters in the constituency and has a margin of error of around 3%.

Mr Flanagan is on 20% support acording to today's exit poll which would be enough to elect him if it is reflected in actual votes cast and counted.

Fine Gael's Mairead McGuinness is estimated to have 16% support, which indicates she will win a seat.

Matt Carthy of Sinn Féin has 13% support.

UPDATE at 5.45pm: Luke Flanagan arrives at the Hyde centre saying he is planning to head straight to Castlebar, where European election votes will be counted tomorrow.. He said it was clear the "people wanted change" and that he was "blown away" by the support received across the constituency.
