A man in his 40s has died following an accident in west Cork in the early hours of this morning, gardaí said.

A man in his 40s has died following an accident in west Cork in the early hours of this morning, gardaí said.

The man was the driver and sole occupant of a car which collided with a wall at Adrigole Bridge, on the R572 Bantry to Castletownbere road, between 2am and 3am

The deceased was removed to Castletownbere and a post mortem is due to take place on Monday at Cork University Hospital.

The R572 is currently closed at Adrigole Bridge, County Cork, to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Bantry Garda Station on 027-20860, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda station.
