A 63-year-old man has died following a crash in Co Tipperary this afternoon.

The single-vehicle crash occurred on the R68 at Newtown, New Inn, Cashel, at approximately 2.45pm.

The man was fatally injured when the car he was driving left the road, entered a ditch and collided with a tree, gardaí said.

He was pronounced dead at scene and his body removed to South Tipperary General Hospital, Clonmel, where a post mortem is to be arranged.

A 35-year-old male passenger in the car was also taken to South Tipperary General Hospital, Clonmel, where his injuries are described as being non-life threatening.

The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.
