Kenny 'feels for carers' facing budget cutbacks
Enda Kenny says he feels for carers and others struggling to cope with proposed budget cutbacks.
The Taoiseach has come under fire in the Dáil for the second day running over the respite care grant cut.
TDs will vote for the measure in the Social Welfare Bill this afternoon and Kenny says the coalition had no other choice but to make tough decisions.
Referring specifically to the case of Pat O’Mahony, Kenny told the Dáil: "There's a lot of hypocrisy going on in here. This Government has to make a lot of very difficult decisions. I feel for Mr O'Mahony and his wife Margaret but the carers package is uncut and the grant is still being paid at a rate of €1,375."
