Jury shown CCTV footage of 'man running from murder scene with baseball bat'

A jury has been shown CCTV footage which appears to show a man accused of murder in Co Kildare running from the scene with a baseball bat.

Zoltan Almasi (aged 44) of Harbour View in Naas denies killing Joseph Dunne on May 16, 2014.

A post mortem revealed Joseph Dunne died from a blunt force trauma to the head.

Gardaí believe Mr Almasi attacked him with a baseball bat after the 20-year-old hit his van, which was parked outside his house.

This afternoon, the jurors were shown some CCTV footage.

Sergeant Dara Divilly was responsible for collecting and analysing it.

He said the victim can be seen sprinting down a street near Mr Almasi’s house.

A man, alleged to be the accused, then comes into the frame and is seen running in the same direction.

Sergeant Divilly said he can be seen raising his right arm and appears to be running away from the area with a baseball bat just a few moments later.

A number of the victim’s friends were also in the footage.

They had travelled to Naas from Athy earlier in the day and were on their way home when the alleged murder took place.

Mr Almasi, a Hungarian national who was working for a courier company in Ireland, denies the charge.
