The Government is pledging half a million euro in aid for Syria.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore said the money will be made available to Irish Aid's partner humanitarian agencies working on the ground in the country.

It will also cover aid for neighbouring countries like Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon.

It comes after almost a year of conflict in Syria, during which time some 7,500 people have been killed and up to 200,000 others have been forced to flee their homes.
