Government wins motion of confidence by six votes

The Government has won its vote of confidence in the Dáil this evening, as expected.

The winning margin was 85 to 79 votes.

Closing the debate earlier, Finance Minister Brian Lenihan said tough and unpopular decisions have had to be made to save the economy.

He accused the Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny of sending out the wrong signals to international investors about the economic state of the country.
