Fresh doubts over Irish Water funding model

New doubts have emerged about the Government's funding model for Irish Water.

It has been claimed that the government will actually have to spend €165m on grants for every home - €35m more than expected.

The Government has said that there are 1.3m principal private households in the country and all are eligible for the grant.

However, CSO figures appear to show there are 1.65m households in the State.

The question was raised in the Dáil last night, where TDs including Roisin Shortall demanded answers from the Government.

"If you're not in a position to answer (these questions), which it seems you're not, we have no option but to adjourn this," she said.

"It's becoming shambolic. We cannot continue like this, in the absence of key information that is required."
