It has emerged that a number of Fine Gael TDs are to "lobby hard" in the coming weeks for the Finance Minister Michael Noonan to alter the structure of the new property tax.
The Sunday Independent reports that several Dublin TDs claim that what is being introduced as a property tax is a "smash-and-grab" attempt to raise quick funds for the State coffers.
In a revolt against a senior party colleague, a meeting of the TDs is understood to be arranged for when the Dáil returns in a bid to have Minister Noonan amend the tax before payments start in July.
The paper also claims that a number of senior ministers are among those expressing concern about the tax.
