Dáil votes in favour of changes to Water Services Bill

The Dáil's held its first vote on the government's updated plan for water charges.

TDs voted 71 to 51 in the first vote on the Water Services Bill.

The bill gives legal effect to the changes announced last month, including the abolition of Irish Water's right to ask for PPS numbers.

The Dáil is due to sit until after 1 o'clock tonight to debate further amendments to the Bill, ahead of a major demonstration on water charges tomorrow.
