Court charges two men with fatal stabbing in Limerick

Gardaí have brought two men before a special court sitting in Limerick charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man.

Shane Murphy, aged 26, from Lee Estate, Island Road, Limerick City, sustained over 20 stab wounds at his girlfriend's house in the village of Pallasgreen, Co Limerick, last Thursday night.

Two men, Ger Hogan and Dylan Hayes, appeared before Limerick District Court this evening, charged with assault causing serious harm to Mr Murphy at, The Grove, Pallasgreen, last Thursday night.

Mr Hogan, 32, with an address at Raheen Square, Ballinacurra Weston, and Mr Hayes, 20, of The Crescent, Kilteragh, Dooradoyle, were each also charged with production of a knife during the course of assaulting Mr Murphy.

Garda Noel Nash said he arrested Dylan Hayes at 5.30pm at Henry Street Garda Station before charging him with the two offences.

Garda Nash told the court that, Mr Hayes replied, "Yeah" to both charges.

Detective Garda Michael Reidy, Bruff Garda Station, gave evidence of arresting and charging Ger Hogan at Roxboro Road Garda Station today at 3.30pm.

"He had nothing to say when replying to both charges," Det Garda Reidy said.

The two accused men were granted free legal aid and two solicitors were appointed to represent them.

The court heard Mr Hayes was "in receipt of unemployment assistance".

Judge Mary Larkin remanded the two accused men in custody to appear before Limerick District Court for the purposes of a bail application next Tuesday, May 5.
