Court charges man with murder in Terenure on Saturday

A Dublin man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a man in the capital on Saturday night.

A Dublin man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a man in the capital on Saturday night.

31-year-old Gary Walsh of Ravensdale, Kimmage, Dublin, was charged with the murder of 62-year-old Cathal Sweeney at Ashdale Gardens, Terenure on Saturday night.

He has been remanded in custody at Cloverhill to appear again next Friday.

Mr Sweeney died in hospital after being found with head injuries at a flat in Terenure.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Ashdale Gardens just before 6pm on Saturday evening.

They found Cathal Sweeney at the flat, and he was rushed by ambulance to St James' Hospital for treatment to what is believed to have been head injuries, however he died later.

It is understood he had been watching the Ireland v Wales rugby match with two other men when a row broke out.
