Cabinet promises €70m pot for storm damage

The government is to make €70m available for repairs after the flood and storm damage.

That is on top of a €25m fund sanctioned for humanitarian relief efforts in flooded homes and businesses.

The money will be given to local authorities who have submitted cost breakdowns of damage done to public infrastructure over the past eight weeks.

An exact cost breakdown for each local authority is not yet available, however the bill from Clare County Council alone is almost €37m.

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Simon Coveney is expected to make a statement to Dáil tomorrow on how the government is planning to response to the damage caused.
