Adams: Queen's visit 'premature'
Sinn Féin President, Gerry Adams, has reiterated his stance on the Queen of England's visit to Ireland next week, maintaining that it is "inadvisable and premature".
His comments follow an article in the Examiner this morning which suggested the party had done a u-turn on its position regarding the British Royals arrival next week.
However, the Louth TD did say the visit is an opportunity for Ireland and Britain to build a new relationship based on equality and mutual respect.
When asked this morning by the media if he welcomed the Queen's visit, he said: "No we don't. That is why we are organising celebrations of Republicanism in each of the cities she is to visit and I want to invite citizens to come along to those events.
"This is a premature visit in our view, we have set out our position very, very clearly."
