Over 400 Dublin jobs under threat
Fears were tonight growing for 425 jobs at an IT company and a frozen food distribution firm.
Pocket Kings Limited in Cherrywood, Dublin, revealed it could axe 250 staff after an online poker firm withdrew from the US market following an FBI probe.
Elsewhere Siptu has demanded a meeting with management at Allied Foods in Dublin, where it is believed 175 people face redundancy.
In a statement Pocket Kings said it provided marketing and technology services to Full Tilt Poker, one of three sites closed by the FBI in April. Eleven people, including the founders of the companies, were charged with bank fraud and money laundering.
Pocket Kings said essential changes were needed within the organisation, where costs need to be cut by approximately €12m.
“It estimates that if all of the required cost savings were to be achieved through redundancies, approximately 250 positions could be affected,” it stated.
“However the exact number cannot be confirmed until the conclusion of a consultation process with its workforce.”
Pocket Kings, which employs 700 people, will begin a 30 day consultation period with employees at the earliest opportunity.
Meanwhile Siptu said members at Allied Foods in Tallaght have been told management want to cut the workforce from 250 to 75 after it lost a contract for the distribution of chilled and frozen products for Dunnes Stores.
SIPTU Organiser John White said: “As the union which represents workers on this site, SIPTU are seeking an urgent meeting with the company to discuss all alternatives to the proposed redundancies.
“Today marks the start of a thirty day consultation process concerning the company’s redundancy proposals, SIPTU will use this period to undertake a full and robust engagement with management concerning all alternatives to these proposed job losses.”
