Passion goes for gold

Saeed bin Suroor is confident a step up in trip will not inconvenience Passion For Gold in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud today.

Saeed bin Suroor is confident a step up in trip will not inconvenience Passion For Gold in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud today.

After bolting up on his debut at Thirsk, the son of Medaglia D’Oro acquitted himself well to finish third behind subsequent Racing Post Trophy hero St Nicholas Abbey in the Beresford Stakes at the Curragh.

The runner-up from that race, the Mark Johnston-trained Layali Al Andalus, reopposes this weekend and Bin Suroor is hopeful his charge can prove up to the task.

“I was pleased with how Passion For Gold ran in Ireland and I think that he has improved since that race,” the trainer told www.godolphin.com.

“He is in good form and he deserves to take his chance in a Group One contest.

“The 10-furlong distance should be no problem and I am looking to see him run well.”

A total of nine horses are due to go to post for the final Group One of the European Flat season.

Andrew Balding sends across Gardening Leave, while Aidan O’Brien, who won the race 12 months ago with Fame And Glory, has three contenders in Don Carlos, Banyan Tree and Mikhail Glinka.
