Santana postpone Dublin gig over coronavirus concerns

Following announcements yesterday of gig cancellations for pop icon Madonna's tour-closing Paris shows, scheduled for tonight and tomorrow, and the postponement of grunge titans Pearl Jam's upcoming US tour, Latin rockers Santana are the latest headline act to cancel their ongoing engagements, including a March 29th gig at Dublin's 3Arena.

Santana postpone Dublin gig over coronavirus concerns

Following announcements yesterday of gig cancellations for pop icon Madonna's tour-closing Paris shows, scheduled for tonight and tomorrow, and the postponement of grunge titans Pearl Jam's upcoming US tour, Latin rockers Santana are the latest headline act to postpone their upcoming European engagements.

The band were scheduled to play a March 29th gig at Dublin's 3Arena as part of the tour, but promoters MCD confirmed the move in a statement.

Promoters are currently working to reschedule a new date as soon as possible. Original tickets purchased remain valid for the rescheduled date which will be announced over the coming weeks. For updates please visit MCD.ie

In a statement, president of Universal Tone Management, Michael Vrionis said: “It is with great disappointment that I have to inform our fans that we are canceling our upcoming Europe Tour.

“Many countries have made the decision to restrict public gatherings in excess of 1,000 people to curb the potential spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).”

“While we deeply regret this unfortunate circumstance, the safety of our fans is the main priority for the Santana Organization,” he added.

“We will keep you all informed of new performance dates as they are made, and will make every effort to return to Europe soon.”

The news comes as speculation runs rampant on further gig and festival cancellations in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic.

Austin, Texas' SXSW and Miami Music Week are among the international festivals to have cancelled as a precaution, while California's Coachella festival is heavily rumoured for postponement.

Closer to home, domestic cancellations such as the St. Patrick's Day parades may precede further actions being taken on mass gatherings of similar size, while further cancellations on the international festival circuit could also affect the lineups for Ireland's early-season weekenders.
