The Co Derry couple who allegedly passed out drunk while in charge of their children during a holiday in Portugal are understood to have returned to the North.

The Co Derry couple who allegedly passed out drunk while in charge of their children during a holiday in Portugal are understood to have returned to the North.

The children were temporarily taken into care on Friday night after the couple apparently passed out at their hotel.

Media reports claim they were drunk, but the exact details of the case remain sketchy.

Yesterday, an SDLP councillor in Derry claimed the children's mother was actually violently ill, while reports this morning say the couple told family and friends they believe their drinks may have been spiked with drugs.

The couple were supposed to appear before a family court in Portugal yesterday, but they failed to show up and are believed to have cut their holiday short and returned to the North.
