Mariah Carey is reported to be in talks with a new record company.
The New York Times reports she is in advanced negotiations with the Island Def Jam group.
She was bought out of her £70m deal by Virgin in January with a £19.6m golden handshake.
The Island Def Jam label has rappers including Jay Z among its stable of artists.
The mooted three-album deal could be worth £3.5m per record.
A spokeswoman for Carey said she was meeting with many executives and taking time to make her final decision.
Mariah's album Glitter and the film that accompanied it were critical and commercial flops.
In July, she left rambling messages on her website and was admitted into a hospital, suffering what was described as a "breakdown".
