Climate change campaigners were today holding a protest rally and march against US President George W Bush’s pledge to abandon the Kyoto Treaty.

Climate change campaigners were today holding a protest rally and march against US President George W Bush’s pledge to abandon the Kyoto Treaty.

Members of the public will underline their support for the deal agreed in December 1997 in Japan by America and the rest of the world, for international action to fight the threat of extreme weather events due to greenhouse gases caused by fossil fuels.

Supporters angry at the President’s pledge to walk away from the Treaty will hold a rally and march from the American embassy in London, to the High Commission of the Maldives.

The low-lying Indian Ocean islands are threatened with being swamped if sea levels rise as a result of unchecked global warming.
