Teen remanded in connection with Halloween ramming incident

A 15-year-old boy has been remanded in custody after he was charged with dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to a female Garda in Dublin on Halloween night.

Garda Linda Bury and a colleague were dealing with an incident on Blackditch Road, in Ballyfermot, when their patrol car was rammed by another vehicle.

A 4X4 then crashed into them pinning Gda Bury to a wall. She was freed by colleagues and taken to St James's Hospital to be treated for leg injuries.

Garda later arrested the 15-year-old boy and charged him with unlawful use of the stolen 4X4 and dangerous driving in a manner that “caused serious bodily harm” to Gda Bury.

The teenager made no reply to caution and was later brought before the Dublin Children's Court.

The boy, who cannot be identified because he is a juvenile, sought bail but Judge Clare Leonard noted that gardaí were objecting.

The court heard that Gda Bury had already been dealing with an immobilised vehicle when she was allegedly struck by the stolen 4X4 and “pinned to a wall”.

Bail was refused and the teenager, who was accompanied to his court hearing by his mother, was remanded in custody to a juvenile detention centre.

The teenager, who has not yet entered a plea to the charges, will appear again at the Children's Court next week.
