A number of groups working with migrants and refugees are meeting today to discuss their response to the Government's new Immigration Bill.

The proposed legislation, published by Minister for Justice Brian Lenihan this week, has already been criticised by some immigrant rights groups.

The Bill, if enacted, would make it easier for the Government to monitor and deport illegal immigrants and failed asylum seekers.

Mr Lenihan says the measures are needed to ensure the integrity of the immigration system, but critics say it is neither fair nor transparent.
