Six killed in overnight road accidents

Four men and a mother and her nine-year-old son have died in four separate overnight road accidents in counties Mayo, Monaghan, Donegal and Tipperary.

Four men and a mother and her nine-year-old son have died in four separate overnight road accidents in counties Mayo, Monaghan, Donegal and Tipperary.

The mother and son died after their car collided with a van at Ballyheane in Castlebar, Co Mayo, at around 9pm.

A 20-year-old man also died after the car in which he was travelling was in collision with another in Castleblaney, Co Monaghan, at around 10pm.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man died when the car he was driving was in collision with a wall in Pettigo, Co Donegal, at around 11pm.

In Co Tipperary, the driver of one car and a passenger in another were killed in a collision near Golden at around 1.20am.

Gardai are withholding the victims' names until all relatives have been informed.
