Cork driver Matt Griffin will participate in the Le Mans 24 Hour Race, one of the most famous events in world motorsport.
Griffin, a karting prodigy, will team up with two other drivers in the Morgan Aero 8 team.
The 21-year-old will be the first Irish racer to compete in Le Mans in over 13 years. He will also become the youngest to represent his country in the famous race that was previously
contested by Irish drivers, John Watson, David Kennedy and Derek Daly – all with Formula 1 experience.
This is a huge step for Griffin, who remarked, "I am absolutely delighted, it is the opportunity of a
lifetime which I intend to grab with both hands," said Griffin.
"The Le Mans 24 Hours is a race I have always dreamt of competing in, but I could never have imagined it would happen so early in my career.
"My aim is to make an impact at Le Mans, it will be a learning experience but I am determined to put in a good performance and ultimately finish the race."
Matt Griffin began his motorsport career in 1993, he went on to become a double Irish Grand Prix champion.
A winner of a round of the British Formula A Karting series, he also raced in the European series.
Moving to Manor Motorsport in 2001, he was a double winner of the Elf Driver of the Race award on two occasions.
The Le Mans 24 Hour Race takes place on June 14 and June 15.
