Worries mount for Dortmund

Werder Bremen piled the misery on Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund with a 2-1 Bundesliga win at the Weserstadion today.

Davie Selke put the hosts in front and Fin Bartels added a second before Mats Hummels grabbed a consolation for the Westphalians, who completed their worst ever first half of a season with just 15 points – and 10 defeats.

Victory moved Bremen off the foot of the Bundesliga table and above their guests, who lie second bottom and face a battle to avoid relegation when they resume their campaign in January after the winter break.

Augsburg came from behind to return to winning ways and close the gap on opponents Borussia Monchengladbach with a 2-1 win at the SGL arena.

Max Kruse put Gladbach in front early on from the spot, but Markus Feulner levelled for Augsburg after 20 minutes.

Raul Bobadilla ensured the hosts took all three points with a goal six minutes after the restart as Augsburg moved level on 27 points with their opponents after their best ever first half to a league season.

Karim Bellarabi salvaged Bayer Leverkusen a 1-1 draw late on against Eintracht Frankfurt as two of the Bundesliga’s most entertaining sides disappointed in their final match before the winter break.

The expected fireworks did not arrive at the BayArena, leaving Alexander Meier to net his customary goal and Bellarabi to snatch an 83rd-minute leveller.

Stuttgart and Paderborn ended 2014 with a goalless draw at the Mercedes-Benz-Arena, leaving two points between the two sides heading into the new year.

The game between Schalke and Hamburg at the Veltins-Arena also ended without a goal, meaning Roberto Di Matteo’s side went two consecutive home games without a win to end the year on a sorry note.
