Bana: 'Oz should promote itself better'
Australian actor Eric Bana wishes his country would promote itself in a more sophisticated manner, because he finds the cliches about antipodean beaches and barbecues embarrassing.
The Hulk star insists Australia is much more sophisticated than it is given credit for.
He says: "I get a bit embarrassed by the way we advertise my country. They still go the whole: 'The beach is empty, and we're waiting for you… and the barbie's going'.
"I grew up a guy in the western suburbs of Melbourne. Australia to me is like any other urban place. Australia is a very sophisticated, big city sort of culture - we just happen to have the world's best beaches as well.
"We are a little bit more progressive than out country advertises itself as."
