Teddy Sheringham today ruled out an immediate switch from playing to management – but revealed his long-term dream is to return to White Hart Lane as a successor to Glenn Hoddle.
Last week, under-pressure Tottenham boss Hoddle told the out-of-contract 37-year-old he would not be offered a new deal for next term.
So Sheringham will pull on a Tottenham shirt for the last time in tomorrow’s friendly against American side DC United in Washington.
He will return to these shores at the weekend and consider the playing offers he has had from elsewhere in England, Portugal, Spain, Japan, the USA, Qatar and the UAE.
But although the veteran frontman has put thoughts of management on the back-burner for the immediate future, he revealed he would love to occupy Hoddle’s seat in the Spurs dug-out in years to come.
And Sheringham intriguingly revealed Spurs chairman Daniel Levy made sure they will part as friends.
“I will assess playing offers if they come in,” he said.
“I feel all right and I would like to carry on playing although it is not up to me – it is up to people who run clubs.”
