A Garda is recovering in hospital this morning after being stabbed in the arm and leg during a burglary in Dublin last night.

The officer was stabbed at around 10.30pm after he chased one of five Chinese men who entered a flat on Church Avenue in Rathmines brandishing knives.

The thieves tied up the occupants of the flat, but a member of the public alerted the Gardai to the incident and the officers gave chase on foot.

The wounded Garda is being treated at St James’Hospital, but his injuries are not life-threatening. One of the five burglars was later arrested and cheque cards stolen from the flat were recovered. A second Garda was also slightly injured while trying to arrest a second raider.
