Fine Gael's Sean Kyne has taken the last seat in the 31st Dáil following a second recount in the Galway West constituency.

Fine Gael's Sean Kyne has taken the last seat in the 31st Dáil following a second recount in the Galway West constituency.

The recount was granted to Independent Catherine Connolly early yesterday after she was eliminated, having lost the final seat to Seán Kyne by just 17 votes.

It got underway yesterday afternoon and counters worked through the night to complete it.

It did not change the result and the five seats now go to Fianna Fáil's Éamon Ó Cuív, Labour's Derek Nolan, Fine Gael's Brian Walsh and Sean Kyne and Independent Noel Grealish.
