Manchester City’s newest recruit has promised to show Chelsea what they missed out on.
Brazil forward Robinho moved to Eastlands from Real Madrid in a shock transfer-deadline-day deal after expressing his desire to sign for Chelsea as recently as last weekend.
And by a quirk of fate the 24-year-old is likely to make his debut against Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side on September 13.
“I like this fixture as my first game,” Robinho told the Daily Mail. “Brazilians are used to playing under pressure.
“You cannot play for Brazil without understanding how to cope with pressure. It comes with the job. It would be a good game to play well.
“I’m used to dealing with the physical power of defenders. It isn’t easy in Spain, you know? I’d like to play well for my team-mates and for the supporters and to score two goals.”
Robinho also refuted claims by Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon that he did not move to City for “sporting reasons” – insisting City can be as successful as Chelsea.
“I am here for sporting reasons, of course,” he added. “I consider City no less than Chelsea. They have a bigger ground, they want to make great progress. I am here from the start.
“They showed their ambition with a bigger proposal than Chelsea. It is not correct what Calderon has said.”
