The Taoiseach Brian Cowen is due to visit Paris today for talks with President Nicolas Sarkozy about the Lisbon Treaty.

The meeting is one in a series Mr Cowen is holding this week with the EU's most influential leaders.

He met German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown yesterday and is also due to travel to Brussels for discussions with EC president Jose Manuel Barroso later today.

The meetings are being held to discuss the Government's proposals for addressing the stalemate surrounding the Lisbon Treaty caused by Ireland's 'no' vote in June.

Mr Cowen is due to present the proposals at an EU summit in Brussels next week.
