A gunman who is believed to have shot dead a British tourist in the Australian outback may have evaded roadblocks and left the area.

Northern Territory Police Commander Max Pope says Peter Falconio's killer could have found a way to get round the road blocks in his vehicle.

Police are also investigating a report from a clairvoyant who claimed the gunman is still in the area but had shaved off his moustache.

Mr Falconio, 28, has not been seen since he and his girlfriend, Joanne Lees, 27, were held up by a man as they travelled in their camper van on a remote desert highway 175 miles north of Alice Springs eight days ago.
