It looks like Jim Gavin is less than three weeks away from becoming the new Dublin senior football manager.
Gavin is expected to be confirmed as Pat Gilroy's successor at the next Dublin County Board meeting on Monday, October 1.
The Round Towers, Clondalkin clubman is widely seen as the preferred candidate after guiding the Dublin Under-21s to two All-Ireland crowns in three years.
He has had some hearty endorsements from his former Dublin team-mates Declan Darcy and Tommy Carr in recent days, and his first step towards the senior position will be an appearance before a County Board sub-committee next week.
If Gavin gets the go-ahead to take over, it is anticipated that Darcy, who was a selector with him for the U-21s, will be part of the new senior backroom team.
Among his other targets could be Jim Brogan, uncle of current Dublin players Alan, Bernard and Paul, and Shane O'Hanlon, Mick Bohan and Davy Byrne, who were all part of that successful U-21 management team.
