People in various parts of America are being inundated with telephone calls from callers wishing to speak to God because their number is the same as the one given for God in the new Jim Carrey comedy Bruce Almighty.
In the film Carrey stars as Bruce Nolan, a mortal who receives the powers of God.
The character of God, played by Morgan Freeman, tries to reach Bruce by leaving a telephone number on his pager.
Coincidentally, one of the people with the same number is the Reverend Bruce Macinnes, pastor of a church in Sanford, North Carolina.
While most of the callers simply hang up, MacInnes said: “I had a call from a man who asked to talk to God. I told him if he was serious I would be happy to talk with him about God. He hung up.”
A spokeswoman for Universal Studios, which produced the film, said that the number was picked because it does not exist in Buffalo, New York, where the film is set.
