Frankie Cocozza has been tipped for the exit in this weekend’s 'X Factor' when two acts will be voted off the show.
Judge Louis Walsh said he thought the Essex teenager would be one of the acts to go in the double eviction, but his mentor Gary Barlow defended the singer.
He told BBC Radio 1’s Chris Moyles Show that Cocozza had a “presence” when he was on stage.
He said: “The point is with Frankie, we’ve never tried to sell him as the best singer.”
Barlow also said he was not worried by Cocozza’s partying antics, saying: “I’ve had this conversation with him. He feels the need as an 18-year-old to go out and let his hair down.”
Walsh admitted he was worried that one of his two remaining acts, Kitty Brucknell and Johnny Robinson, could lose out at the weekend after Barlow said people were not “connecting” with Brucknell.
He also revealed that American chart star Lady Gaga is set to appear on the show later this month.
Fellow judge Kelly Rowland said she and Tulisa Contostavlos have “agreed to disagree” after the pair fell out on the show.
The trouble started when Tulisa and Louis Walsh accused Kelly’s act Misha B of bullying the other contestants.
But Rowland, who said she spoke to Tulisa last night, told Moyles: “We have agreed to disagree and that’s just the start and the end of it.”
Earlier, Barlow condemned the “bickering” that has dogged the reality TV show, saying it was not what viewers were tuning in for.
The focus should be on the contestants’ on-stage performances and not the judges’ arguments, he insisted.
Speaking on ITV’s 'Daybreak' he said: “I’ll be honest, we’re not too fond of all falling out because it’s all about the contestant, it’s got to be with this competition. That’s what people are tuning in for.
“They can have bickering at home every day of the week. I don’t like us to be seen bickering on stage.”
Arguing that the show should not be about the judges’ feud, he said: “It’s all about what we’re putting on the stage and whether we like it or not, so when we all start falling out, I’m not a fan of that at all.”
