Sinn Féin and the SDLP have both expressed concerns about the new make-up of the Parades Commission announced by the British government yesterday.
The seven new members of the body include David Burrows, a former leading Orangeman in Portadown, and two others with a peripheral involvement in the Orange Order.
The move appears to be a concession to unionists, who have been demanding reform of the commission.
The SDLP has expressed disappointment with the new membership, while Sinn Féin said it was concerned at the inclusion of an Orangeman who tried to force sectarian marches through the nationalist Garvaghy Road in Portadown.
The three main loyalist marching groups, meanwhile, said they hoped to engage in a positive way and find a permanent resolution to the issue of contentious parades.
