David Marshall is ready, willing and able to take part in this weekend’s Old Firm derby – despite another disappointing outing for Scotland.
The Celtic goalkeeper was left picking the ball out of his net four times as Sweden romped to a win at Easter Road after Tommy Burns took temporary charge of team affairs for the first time.
Marshall’s previous outing with the national team was not much better – a 3-0 thrashing by Hungary at Hampden.
But the youngster would have had more on his mind than simply bringing the feel-good factor back to the Scotland team.
He found himself dropped for Celtic’s win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday and the man who took his place – Magnus Hedman – just happened to be between the sticks at the other end of the park for last night’s friendly.
Marshall knows the 4-1 scoreline does not look good ahead of this weekend’s Old Firm derby but he insists his confidence has not been affected by the result - or his battle to reclaim his place in the top team.
He said: “It would be different if you were chucking them in but it is difficult to lose four goals.”
