Chicago role for ex-Eastender
Actress Anita Dobson is to take a starring role in the West End musical Chicago.
The former EastEnder will play butch prison boss Mama Morton at London’s Adelphi Theatre.
Also joining the cast is former Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson, making his West End debut as scheming lawyer Billy Flynn.
Dobson, wife of Queen star Brian May, has appeared in various musicals and stage productions since quitting her role as Angie Watts in the BBC soap in 1989.
Her screen husband Dirty Den, played by Leslie Grantham, is about to make a shock return to Albert Square.
But Dobson, 54, has ruled out a comeback, saying: “I’m very lucky, I don’t need the money. Why would I want to go back to tarnish the gorgeous creation that was Angie Watts?”
The actress, who had a top 10 hit in the 80s with Anyone Can Fall In Love, joins Chicago on September 8.
Richardson, who previously starred in the Broadway production, joins on September 22 for a six-week run.
