Index shows fall in consumer sentiment
Consumer sentiment weakened in December mainly because of the tough Budget and the EU/IMF deal, but the decline could have been a lot worse, according to KBC and the ESRI.
The latest consumer sentiment index also shows that the severe weather of late November and early December may also have contributed to people being gloomier.
But most people are slightly encouraged by the fact that tough action is being taken now giving them some certainty when it comes to where they stand financially.
