Dion Dublin has spelt out his desire to remain with Aston Villa but admits he is "flattered" by interest from Rangers.

Dublin will become a free agent in the summer when his current contract expires and he could expect to secure a lucrative deal from the Glasgow giants.

But the 34-year-old striker-turned-defender is settled in the Midlands and ideally would like to be given a new contract by Villa boss David O'Leary.

Dublin, who moved to Villa from Coventry five years ago, said: "I was told a couple of days ago that Rangers might be interested in me. I was flattered that a club of that size would like me.

"It is very nice to hear that a club like that would want me at this stage of my career. I must be doing something right.

"But I'm not the kind of person who looks too far ahead. I don't let those things bother me until the time comes to deal with it.

"I'll be able to leave Villa at the end of the season when my contract has finished. I'll be a free agent and able to go anywhere if anyone wants me.

"Ideally I'd like to stay here at Villa because I'm settled in the area and happy. I'd love to get a new contract here. But it's one of those where whatever will be will be.

"I'm just getting on with it. I don't know anything yet but I'll do my utmost to keep myself fit and be ready to play at the drop of a hat.

"At the moment all I've got nothing on my mind apart from trying to beat Arsenal at Villa Park on Sunday."
